How to Pass the LOTE Spanish Certification Test
If you need to know the best and fastest way to pass the LOTE Spanish 613 exam, you are in the right place! I have passed the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Spanish 613 test, and I have years of experience helping people just like you pass, too! Below are tips and steps you need to take to pass the LOTE Spanish test. Read more about recommended resources.
Prepare for All Domains
- First, be sure you are completely fluent in Spanish, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. You need to have a strong command of the language and be able to communicate effectively in all areas. You need strong reading comprehension and must use accent marks correctly. Our comprehensive LOTE course will help you prepare for ALL sections of the LOTE. This course includes the pedagogy course, all writing tasks from the writing tasks bundle, reading and listening comprehension, and more.
Pedagogy/Instruction and Assessment
- As previously mentioned, it is important to prepare for all domains.
- In particular, study hard for the Pedagogy/Instruction and Assessment section, the largest part of the test. If you ONLY need help on pedagogy, instruction and assessment, we offer a digital course or a printable study guide. Choose whichever one is best for you. I highly recommend you prepare for all domains. However, if you’re sure you only need help with pedagogy, learn more about my pedagogy course here. If you need to polish your writing, practice speaking and reading, or work on listening, you should do the comprehensive course, which includes the pedagogy course and material for all domains.
- Learn how to answer the ACTFL questions.
Learn Accents and Improve Your Writing
- Since the Spanish writing counts for 12 percent and the English for 8 percent, be sure to prepare for all of the writing tasks. You have to write three tasks in Spanish: an essay, a response to an email or memo, and an integrated writing task. The integrated writing task is similar to a summary.
- In addition to the writing tasks in Spanish, you have to write two assignments in English: an essay and a lesson plan. Our Writing Tasks Bundle has examples of a perfect response to each task. The lesson plan is challenging because you are not allowed to use any resources. However, there are tips you will learn in my resources. The digital pedagogy course and the writing tasks bundle teach you how to write an effective lesson plan on the spot.
- Be sure you know how to properly use accent marks
- Use the resources at the Pearson website to take an interactive practice exam to determine if you are ready for the test
- If you are still struggling after studying for the pedagogy/instruction and assessment section, contact me at info@texasteachertoday.com to schedule a tutoring session.
- Make sure you know where to put accent marks.
Interview with the Pedagogy Lady
How long have you been teaching people pedagogy?
I passed the LOTE in 2014, and shortly after I started tutoring and offering study material to people that need to pass the LOTE. The content of the LOTE exam has not changed since then, but over time I have improved my material.
Who are your clients?
My clients are aspiring or current Spanish teachers in Texas that need to pass the LOTE Spanish 613 exam. Most of my clients speak Spanish at home, but they went to school in the US. I help them learn the cognitive, academic language they need to succeed. However, I have also helped many second language learners and people from Spanish speaking countries pass the test. One thing everyone has in common is that they need help with pedagogy/instruction and assessment, so I really focus on that.
How is your course and tutoring different from other programs?
I have taken and passed the LOTE, and I only create study material and offer tutoring for TExES exams. I also have a clear, simple style of teaching. I will not overwhelm you with information that is not on the test.
What does the course entail and what will I have to do?
Passing the LOTE requires dedicated effort and time. I recommend studying for 1.5 hours per day for two months. It’s great to break it up into 15-30 minute increments a few times a day. The course has information for all domains, including pedagogy/instruction and assessment, the lesson plan, interpretive reading, interpretive listening, written proficiency, and oral proficiency. You read material, watch videos, take quizzes, and do writing and speaking assignments that you upload for specific feedback on how to improve.
Does this really work?
Yes! I have helped countless people pass the LOTE, including heritage speakers, native speakers, and language learners. Many people contact me after they have failed, and they send me their score report for advice. After completing my course and tutoring, their score often goes up 15-20 points!
Who is this course and tutoring NOT for?
This course is not for novice or intermediate level language learners. A C1 level or higher of Spanish is necessary to have a chance of passing the LOTE. You also must have strong skills in English. This course is also not designed for people that cannot commit to 1.5 hours of studying per day (broken up into increments). Finally, this course and tutoring is not designed for people taking their test in a few days. It is best to prepare for two months or more.
